What is actually tested

Three skill areas, 35 percent of SAT Math

Advanced Math ties Algebra as the largest domain on the digital SAT Math section, and is the domain most students find hardest.

SKILL AREAS

What Advanced Math questions actually ask

  • Equivalent expressions
  • Nonlinear equations in one variable and systems of equations
  • Nonlinear functions

This is where quadratic equations, polynomials, exponents, and exponential growth live.

WHY STUDENTS LOSE POINTS

The same function, in disguise

A question might give a quadratic in one form and ask for a feature of its graph, the vertex or the number of solutions, without ever asking you to graph anything. A student strong in algebra but unpracticed with quadratics, exponential growth, and rewriting expressions in different forms often loses points here without realizing why.

Recognizing the same function in different disguises, standard form, vertex form, factored form, is the single most useful skill in this domain.

How we teach Advanced Math specifically

Building comfort with every form a function can take

We diagnose Advanced Math on its own, then build practice around the specific function types and forms a student struggles to recognize quickly. Score well, and the next set raises the difficulty. Struggle, and we repeat the concept at the same level until switching between forms becomes automatic, not a calculation done from scratch each time.

Common questions

SAT Advanced Math coaching, answered honestly

What does SAT Advanced Math actually cover?+

Three skill areas, equivalent expressions, nonlinear equations and systems of equations, and nonlinear functions, including quadratics, polynomials, and exponential growth.

Why is Advanced Math the hardest SAT Math domain for most students?+

Mainly because the function types look less familiar than algebra, and the same function can appear in different forms, standard, vertex, or factored, without warning.

How much of the SAT Math score is Advanced Math?+

Roughly 35 percent, tied with Algebra as the largest domain on the digital SAT Math section.

Does Digiwiz Academy diagnose Advanced Math separately?+

Yes. We score it on its own in your diagnostic, then build practice around the specific function types and forms a student struggles to recognize quickly.
